The Book & Blanket Players have been producing youth musicals-in-a-week summer theatre for 16 years in Keene Valley. This year the theatrical adventure continues with Anastasia: the Musical.
The cast of 8 to 18 year olds and the production team are eager to share this retelling of Russian history in musical form. Some of the songs are from the 1997 cartoon that the Broadway musical was based on. The cartoon version features voices of Bernadette Peters, Angela Lansbury, Meg Ryan, John Cusack and Kelsey Grammer.
The B&B Players are grateful to once again have vocal coach-master class teacher Alisa Endsley as part of the creative team. Ms. Endsley is known in the Broadway community. She has worked with some of the biggest names on Broadway including composer Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Director Trevor Nunn, Tony wining actors Patti Lupone, George Hearn and Betty Buckley. Other members of the team are Annie Scavo, Grace Martin, Lia Loomis, and the Players founder Kathy Recchia.
This is the 16th year for the Players to take on the musical-in-a-week format. They began with the musical Mirette followed by the first incarnation of the original musical Road to Dannemora. Other productions have included 1776,Lend Me a Tenor: the Musical, the original theatrical/film: Piano Portal, an original musical of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice, Little Women, the original Everyone Loves Camping, and last year’s production of Meet Me in St. Louis.
