One of the most beloved singer songwriters of recent decades, Dar Williams brings lyricism, emotional depth and an irresistible sense of humor to every performance. From the instantly recognizable rolling melody of "Iowa" to favorites like "When I Was a Boy" and "The Beauty of the Rain," her songs radiate a fierce but unsentimental optimism in the face of personal and political obstacles. She is a singer, teacher, writer and activist, as passionate about the environment as she is about harmony. (She once said that when she and Richard Shindell and Lucy Kaplansky collaborated onthe album "Cry Cry Cry" that they had wanted to call themselves "The Harmony Whores" but were advised against it.) Dar has toured with Joan Baez, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin, among others, and recorded with artists like Alison Krauss, Bela Fleck and Richard Thompson. An accomplished author, she has written books for children and adults, on small towns, song writing,and healthy eating on the road.
